How did you end up at Beyond Walls?
One of the OG’s. Jamie and Julie met with me during the vision that was Beyond Walls looking to create something amazing for the community of Maidenhead and Cookham. I had the absolute pleasure of coaching from the Beyond Walls gazebo for the first three months.
What did your fitness life look like before CrossFit/HYROX?
I used to play Football and Hockey at quite a high level before and during University before getting into bodybuilding in the latter years of uni. It was just after university that I found CrossFit.
What are your favourite sessions to coach?
Gymnastics or anything where there is just a single movement to coach. I love having as much time as possible to break down a movement and teach people something new each and every session.
What is something members might not know about you?
I spent two years selling serviced office space (alongside CrossFit coaching) when I was having a bit of a career crisis at the age of 30. This job was so boring that all I did was watch educational CrossFit videos.
What is your advice for nervous newbies?
You will feel like a newbie for more than a year. You often think that you’ll come in and pick it up really quickly but CrossFit will teach you so much that you’ll discover a real joy in learning so many new things. Make note of where you are today and compare yourself to this every 3 months.
What inspired you to coach?
I always played sports into my mid-twenties and have always understood the positive impacts that exercise can have on moving people from sickness to wellness. Getting people off the couch and off medication is why I really do what I do.
What does a good day at Beyond Walls look like?
A big variety of different things to be honest. A few hours coaching, a few hours doing PT, a couple of hours of massage, chatting with the team about their day and talking to the members over a coffee. Bliss!
