HYROX training at Beyond Walls

Sound familiar?

Not sure you can run 8km with workouts in between? Never touched a sled? Worried about no-reps on wall balls, or a rule you didn't know existed?

Or maybe you've raced before, and you know exactly where it went wrong: out too fast, burned out on the ergs, walked the lunges, watched a finish time that didn't match your fitness.

Whether it's your first start line or your fifth, this programme is for you. Every session, workshop and conversation over the eight weeks is designed to replace question marks and "never agains" with a plan.

What's included

Everything you need, in one programme.

01

3 coached classes a week

Strength & Skill, Engine Development, and HYROX Simulation. Every session scaled to your level by a coach who knows your name.

02

An 8-week running plan

Three runs a week that build from easy aerobic work to race-pace efforts, designed to fit around your classes.

03

4 technical workshops

Two hours deep on the stations that decide your race.

04

A weekly call with your coach

Review the week you've done, walk through the week ahead, and ask anything about race prep. Recorded if you can't make it live.

05

Baseline & InBody

A body composition scan and benchmark time trial in Week 1, repeated in Week 8, so your progress is measured, not guessed.

06

Your personalised race plan

A one-page pacing card with your target splits, built from your own simulation times. You'll know exactly how to run your race.

07

Debrief & splits review

After the race, sit down with a coach, go through your splits, and plan what's next.

08

The cohort WhatsApp group

Train alongside people preparing for the same start line. Accountability, answers and a fair amount of laughing at the sleds.

The workshops

Four workshops on the stations that decide your race.

01

Nutrition & Race Rules

Know before you go. How to fuel your training and your race, what happens on race day, the rules that catch first-timers out, and how transitions actually work.

02

Sleds & Farmer's Carry

The heaviest stations, made manageable. Body position, drive angle and footwork on the sleds, plus carry technique that saves your grip and your pace.

03

Ergs (Ski & Row)

Stop burning matches early. Pacing and technique on the two stations where new athletes most often overspend energy they need for the runs.

04

Wall Balls, Burpee Broad Jumps & Lunges

Fix your weakest station. The technique details that prevent no-reps, protect your knees and keep you moving when it burns.

The journey

Your eight weeks, at a glance.

  1. 1

    Weeks 1–2

    Foundation

Build the base. Movement quality, aerobic foundations, and your Week 1 baseline: an InBody scan and benchmark time trial so you know exactly where you're starting from.

  2. 2

    Weeks 3–4

    Work capacity

Longer efforts, heavier carries, bigger engine. This is where the fitness gets built.

  3. 3

    Weeks 5–6

    Race pace

Full race simulations with runs between stations. You'll learn what your race pace feels like, so race day holds no surprises.

  4. 4

    Weeks 7–8

    Peak & taper

Sharpen up, then back off. A 75% simulation, a race rehearsal at target pace, and your Week 8 retest to measure how far you've come.

  5. 5

    Week 9

    Race week

Easy movement, a personalised pacing card in your hand, and the start line waiting.

Your coaches

Coached by an athlete who races it at world level.

HYROX Ascent is led by Dr Peter Downer and Jess Braun, alongside the Beyond Walls coaching team.

Dr Peter Downer at the HYROX World Championships Stockholm 2026

Dr Peter Downer

Peter doesn't just coach HYROX. He races it at the sharp end: a World Championships doubles athlete, qualified for the solo World Championships in Hong Kong 2027, with top-five finishes across Europe, and one of only two UK athletes on the PRVN World Performance Team for 2026–27.

And coaching isn't his hobby, it's his profession. A Master's degree in Sports Coaching, a former Head of Coach Education for England Hockey, 25 years playing and coaching at Premiership and international level, and now the HYROX Level 2 Performance Coach certification, HYROX's highest coaching education status.

That combination matters. Every pacing call, station fix and race plan in this programme comes from someone who has tested it where it counts, and who has spent a career learning how to teach it, whether you're chasing a podium or just want to get round smiling.
